① Artwork:
Mt. Washington 13
In this artwork, blobs and wisps of paint come together to form a blossoming hillside packed with cactuses, cattails and grasses, with a settlement receding in the distance. Although he usually paints from memory, Holmquist made his recent series of pandemic-induced, plein air landscapes via direct observation. This shift was also due to the artist’s delight in the radically new light and colors his new Los Angeles home provided.
Andrew Holmquist creates hyperreal landscapes crafted from his imagination, personal memory, and life. He uses imagery from his daily life to create paintings that are containers for passing, quotidian moments that overflow with innumerable details.
