About the artist:

Mark’s biography is well documented in the history of fashion photography. A British artist, arriving on the Paris scene as a hairstylist in the 80’s he was soon taking pictures of his friends who worked in fashion. It wasn’t long before he caught the eye of Franca Sozzani who immediately commissioned him for Italian Vogue.

Working closely with designers has been Mark’s preferred way of working and thus his career has been defined by eras with Martin Margiela, Yohji, Comme, Bless, Vanessa Bruno, Balenciaga and most recently Courrèges. He likes to get into a brand and really help define a new vision, taking photographs that are elegant and chic in their simplicity and authentic in their charm. They tend to be remembered, used again and talked about.

Mark is also prolific editorially contributing to Purple, The Face, Vogue, Self Service, Fantastic Man and Holiday. Always wanting to push himself he adds film where he can and finds it a good playground for his humour to emerge. His whimsical portrait of Hans Ulrich Obrist for Buffalo Zine is a good example of this, where Obrist dressed up as Andy Warhol.

Mark has published a series of books including "Not in Fashion" & "Synthetic Voices" and 2025 will see the publication of "Polapan". Mark occupies the enviable position of inspiring new generations whilst ensuring his own work doesn't repeat itself.
