① Artwork:
Summer
This work is made of canvas that has been painted with radiant yellows and oranges—only to be dissected through a series of precise cuts. Like most of the artworks in this series, this painting hangs in various parts that gently cascade downward, allowing portions of the canvas to droop or fold in organic curves.
Vaughn Terrell Davis, Jr. characterizes his artworks as circumstantial objects. Using mediums like paint, performance, video, and clay, he both creates and destroys in his abstract forms. Ultimately, his tattered, distressed, and deconstructed artworks offer subtle yet poignant statements about art’s role in a society undergoing dramatic change.

Vaughn Terrell Davis, Jr. characterizes his artworks as forms of circumstance, with each object becoming a documentation of its moment in time. Using mediums like paint, performance, video, and clay, he both creates and destroys in an abstract process as he develops metaphors for our lived experience. He builds upon the tenets of Abstract Expressionism but thinks about painting as a more expanded form. Ultimately his tattered, distressed, and deconstructed artworks offer subtle yet poignant statements about art’s role in a society undergoing dramatic change.
