Los Angeles-based artist Mia Scarpa’s practice uses different mark-making methods, mediums, and surfaces, offering a wide variety of results. Although much of her work might appear arbitrary on its own, when grouped, the pieces speak to each other, adding a larger “world-building” theme to Scarpa’s oeuvre. She incorporates unique references into her imagery, informed by areas of New England where she grew up—Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island—as well as her current California home.
