About the artist:
Melissa Ríos works primarily in painting and drawing, mining the fertile ground between figuration and abstraction. Ríos paints surreal, dream-like visions, seeking to expand her understanding of reality and how it gets represented. Figures, objects, and abstracts overlap and aggregate like veils between realms of experience. Full of emotional charge and presence, her paintings imagine spaces between the physical and metaphysical—as well as imagination and experience.
Melissa Rios was born in 1986 in Costa Rica and lives in Mexico City, Mexico.
Rios has mounted solo exhibitions at JO-HS in New York, NY (2024, 2023) and Cuarto 37 in San José, Costa Rica (2021).
