Space and Time
Blurring the boundary between two and three dimensions, this artist frequently strives to balance the melancholic moods of deep shadows with the soft lighting of candles. Symbols of hope and warmth, candles feature prominently in Ahn’s new body of work and offer a counterpoint to his more somber elements.
Dabin Ahn is a painter, sculptor, and installation artist. His recent work captures the poetics emanating from classic Korean vessels and other objects with vigorous precision. Ahn projects a fragmented, intangible realm onto the material world with his work. Casting his imagery in an extraordinary light, he gestures towards the imperceptible terrains of memory, emotion, and transition.
