Sleepy Girl

This work depicts a dog-human hybrid taking a midday nap in a softly lit bedroom next to a cramped nightstand. This work is part of a series that features anthropomorphized dog/human hybrids. These figures serve as stand-ins for the artist and the people in her life. Seibert uses lamp-black gouache to paint these characters in dreamlike vignettes.

Combining autobiographical elements with fantasy, Chloe Seibert’s work explores existential dread, desire, societal performance and insurgency. The artist’s practice encompasses sculpture and immersive installation, as well as painting and drawing. Seibert derives many of her dreamlike vignettes from an unfinished narrative comic that the artist has mostly kept private.

Chloe Seibert was born in New York in 1989.

Solo exhibitions of Seibert’s work have taken place at: ASHES/ASHES in New York City; No Place Gallery in Columbus, Ohio; Queer Thoughts in New York City; COOPER COLE in Toronto, Canada; Interstate Projects in New York City; and MICKEY in Chicago, Illinois.
