About:
Since 2007, The Box LA has worked to create a program that balances historical artists with those of a younger generation, while also investing in political and experimental practices of the art community. Our goal in organizing historical retrospective exhibitions is to give the public a deeper understanding and richer context of these artists’ work. We encourage the younger artists we show to experiment in their art practices via large installations, events or performance-based works. This multi-generational approach allows for a diverse interconnection of historical and contemporary work. After moving into the Arts District in 2012 and developing the program even more, The Box has been expanding its vision of the gallery and has realized the importance of showing politically and psychologically dynamic work. Expanding the access and concept of a gallery program that include dance, painting, music, art history, sculpture, social justice projects, performance and gallery editions.
