The Esopus Foundation Ltd. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization incorporated in New York State in 2003. The Foundation aims to provide an unmediated forum through which artists, writers, musicians, and other creatives can connect directly with the general public. Until 2018, the Foundation primarily devoted itself to publishing Esopus, a periodical/limited-edition artwork edited and designed by founder Tod Lippy and presenting content from multiple creative disciplines in an unmediated format. Esopus never featured advertisements or commercially driven editorial material, and it employed a purposefully neutral editorial voice to position the magazine as a distributor, rather than an interpreter, of its content.
