HOW TO GIVE YOUR BEDROOM A REFRESH

HOW TO GIVE YOUR BEDROOM A REFRESH
And how to find the right kind of art to match.
If people are looking to redecorate their bedroom, what's the one thing you feel makes the biggest and most immediate impact?
Since a bedroom is such a personal space and a retreat from the world, one should always incorporate elements that will soothe and uplift. A calming color on the walls, lush textures or inviting bedding can quickly transform a space into your personal sanctuary.
Are there any specific materials or objects you recommend people reach for if they're trying to up the cozy factor in their bedroom?
Area rugs are a great way to soften up a bedroom since they're the first and last thing you make contact with before you get into your bed. A soft silk or thick-cut wool feel so inviting.
What are some of your favorite things to include in (or ways to update) a bedroom that most people might overlook at first?
Being that one is horizontal for the majority of the time in this room, it’s important to consider the ceilings: make sure paint is well appointed, maybe even going as far as adding wallpaper to the ceiling, and install sculptural lighting or a dramatic pendant to add interest as you look up.
How about what to avoid?
Any elements you bring into a room should serve a purpose or function. Having a desk that you won’t write or work at only becomes a resting place for clutter. Instead, add pieces that facilitate new uses in the room, perhaps lounge seating for alternative reading spots or a more intimate area to enjoy conversation.
What about art? What role do you feel art can play in a bedroom?
Our bedrooms are our most intimate spaces and the art here should reflect that. Artworks should feel really special in a bedroom, be it in terms of what they depict or their personal significance.
Other than their subject or personal sentiment, is there anything else we should keep in mind when it comes to the art we choose for our bedroom?
In the intimacy of a bedroom, there are more opportunities to incorporate smaller-scaled works. These might otherwise be overlooked or overwhelmed near larger or more impactful works in public areas of a home.
Is there a trend you're seeing in bedroom decor right now that you think will have staying power?
I love that bedrooms are getting larger and layouts are serving more functions. Post-covid, we are seeing more office alcoves, lounge seating, and reading nooks so people can utilize these spaces to the utmost.
