Path
This painting employs shades of violet and magenta to depict a stone path that leads to a white stucco Spanish revival home. The orange roof tiles are offset by the rhythmic interplay of greens that comprise the surrounding landscape. The scene is rendered with energetic, gestural brushwork complemented by the delicate application of layered colors that articulate the stones of the walkway. A pink underpainting imbues the image with the luminous quality of early dusk.

Nick McPhail lives and works in Los Angeles, California. In 2006, he received a BFA from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
