It's Not Working
Two disembodied hands—one languid, the other outreaching—represent a push-and-pull relationship between two people. With a reddish background behind them, the hands are surrounded by abstract shapes resembling mist or orbs. These light blue shapes create energy flows between and around the ghostly extremities.
Miranda Byk creates dream-like vignettes in her paintings that are both haunting and immersive. Her practice explores deeply personal narratives by drawing from her dreams, traumas and anxieties. Byk often paints references from her childhood inspired by her familial relationships and early ideas, and she often employs nature motifs that explore themes ranging from the passage of time to the transience of existence.

Miranda Byk was born in 1994 in Ventura, CA, and lives in Los Angeles, CA. She received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in San Francisco, CA (2017).
Byk has mounted solo exhibitions at Sow & Tailor in Los Angeles, CA (2023, 2022, 2021).
She has participated in group exhibitions at Primary Projects in Miami, FL (2023); K11 Musea via WOAW Gallery in Hong Kong, China (2022); Carlye Packer in Palm Springs, FL (2022); The Japanese American Cultural and Community Center in Los Angeles, CA (2022) and others.
