Marina Adams is an abstract painter and printmaker whose work employs vivid colors and undulating asymmetrical forms. The artist has collaborated with poets, and her work possesses a lyrical quality. Adams' work embraces new technologies in printmaking as well as a painterly style that emphasizes the gestural.
Marina Adams received a BFA from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and an MFA from Columbia University's School of the Arts in New York City.
Adams’ work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions in the United States and abroad. Solo exhibitions have taken place at: Salon 94 in New York City (2019); Marc Jancou at Giovanella Kunstglaserei in Gstaad, Switzerland (2017); Galerie Gris in Hudson, New York (2015 and 2013); Hionas Gallery in New York City (2013); CUE Art Foundation in New York City (2008); and Magazzino d’Arte Moderna in Rome, Italy (1997); among others. Group exhibitions include: Aspects of Abstraction at Lisson Gallery in New York City; Artemesia at Albert Baronian Gallery in Brussels, Belgium; A Space for Thought at Brand New Gallery in Milan, Italy; Vanishing Points at James Cohan in New York City in 2017; and Boys And Girls Can Still Draw at Nathalie Karg Gallery in New York City; and Making & Unmaking: An exhibition curated by Duro Olowu at Camden Arts Centre in London, UK in 2016. Adams is a 2016 recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship.
In 2017, Adams was invited by Larissa Goldston to work at ULAE. The artist has since applied her painterly sensibility to produce a series of monoprints that incorporate both new technology and traditional printmaking techniques.
Adams is based between New York City and Parma, Italy.
