Walk Home

This painting depicts traveling figures walking in an angled line, focused on their phones. As with all the paintings in this series, the artist positions viewers as onlookers outside this scene of working and commuting figures performing daily tasks in a sleeper city.

In his acrylic paintings, the artist depicts simplified scenarios of observed and imagined social dynamics. These suspenseful stories feature ordinary subjects with much of their physical information removed, allowing the slightest gesture to hold weight. Morrison repeatedly edits a painting to build nuances, striking a delicate balance between information and imagination. He dramatizes scale and distance for effect and subdues his colors to establish a dreamlike, hazy atmosphere.

Luke Morrison

In these acrylic paintings, the artist depicts simplified scenarios of observed and imagined social dynamics. These suspenseful stories involve archetypal representations of contemporary working or commuting figures with ambiguous intentions. These ordinary subjects have much of their information removed, allowing the slightest gesture to hold weight and helping to deepen these existential moments. Morrison repeatedly edits a painting to build nuances, striking a delicate balance between information and imagination. He dramatizes scale and distance for effect and subdues his colors to establish a dreamlike, hazy atmosphere. The result is an act of meditation, where intimate and private resistance can cultivate a critical reading and perception of the world.
