This painting employs a bold and playful palette along with a repeated figure to explore color and form. This work is part of a series by the artist that examines depth and perspective within a flat surface. James Ulmer’s paintings use a rudimentary vocabulary that is both simple and universal. The artist renders childlike elements in his work—including people, animals, still lifes and landscapes—with a combination of sophistication and minimalist restraint.
