Creation
This painting depicts a monumental nude, queer figure in an idyllic landscape tinged with danger. The work simultaneously wrestles with ideas of traditional fertility and queer intimacy.
This painting was inspired by creation stories in which landscapes were formed due to sex between the gods. It shows two male figures undulating and grinding against each other, forming the hills and mountains through their union.
J Carino’s paintings explore his interest in the interactions between people and nature and how our sense of self is connected with the natural world.
