Household Management
This series of paintings contemplates a modern woman’s everyday routine, such as “grooming sessions” and a brief smoke — a moment of “pause” in Cunningham’s often quirky stories.
Holland Cunningham is known for her signature painting style, contrasting color with brush strokes while connecting people with humorous moments or motions in time. Her paintings are fragments of a narrative that continues to change and develop as new pieces get added. The artist’s work encompasses oil, water-based media, photography, and animation, and she often uses her collection of discarded photography as a starting point for compositions. Cunningham’s paintings frequently depict figures from behind or cropped in an uncomfortable way — adding a layer of mystery by always leaving something out.
