① Artwork:
Equus I
This painting imagines Picasso’s iconic horse, plucked from the chaos of the artist's Guernica, as a sculptural assemblage. The horse stands in isolation on an empty expanse underneath a luminous, cubist-inflected sky. The composition is influenced equally by both modernist masterworks and desert-dwelling junk sculpture.
Daniel Dove's paintings invite viewers to indulge in the quiet pleasure of thoughtful observation. The artist's compositions evoke the effects of architecture, art and popular culture in paintings; each one is rich with detail, beautiful brushwork and dynamic color.
