Summer Respite
This painting depicts a nude elven figure resting an arm on a chair while smoking a cigarette in a backyard patio. A dog sleeps under a table where multiple beverages sit on top. A large potted plant sits on the left of the composition and there is a suggestion of a neighbor’s house in the background.
Chase Biado uses a highly saturated palette to paint fantasy beings that wander dreamlike spaces—an imagined world that combines fantasy and daily life. Biado's compositions realign the axis of beauty and ugliness, replacing the human figure with goblins and rat people that have full interior lives. The artist employs vibratory lines and rhythmic mark-making to render the picture plane a psychological space.
