① Artwork:
A Double Offering
This painting is a response to our society’s growing dependence on electronic devices—as well as the devastating impact humans continue to have on our planet. This composition is part of a series by the artist, each work an iteration of a loose natural landscape of beasts, plants and shapes interacting with their surroundings and one another. Girard hopes that this series, at the very least, can serve as a reminder to viewers to go outside and observe the world that surrounds them.
The artist's canvases, full of colorful, organic shapes and markings, are reflections and explorations of the artist's private observations. Each work is a kind of multicultural, yet enigmatic, tableau vivant—a genre of painting that depicts still figures arranged in a scene. Girard is interested in how psilocybin, ayahuasca and other forms of plant medicine can inform the creative process over time.
