Sharon Madanes is a painter and doctor who transforms the banalities of hospital life into bold, highly saturated scenes. Madanes paints from her experience with treating patients in her hospital’s medical and psychiatric wards, drawing from her memories and from sketches made during periods of downtime from her shifts. Her paintings stand as a juxtaposition of humdrum institutional moments that relate to matters of life and death. Born of her own sense of duality, straddling two professional identities, Madanes' paintings attest to the way her work as a doctor informs her work as an artist.
