Delaney Lee’s practice reflects on nature’s cyclical forces, the impermanence of existence, and the interconnectedness of life and death in our environment. Employing the repeated motif of a spiraling snake amid insects and wildflowers native to California, her subjects radiate with life, detail, and vibrant color. Sumptuously rendered in oil paint and pastel, Lee’s paintings speak to the invisible forces and sheer power of nature (evident in even the most tranquil scenes) yet evoke a sense of caution and urgency to protect this precarious balance.
