Daniella Portillo
Daniella Portillo explores the problem of memories betraying the reality of physical space in her paintings. In her work, she translates impressions from her childhood, such as pastoral and urban environments rife with disparity and inequities and tropical atmospheres replete with sunshine and heat. Portillo scrapes and deteriorates the painting surface, guided by the atmospheres of places she recalls, to create vibrant, deep images which echo the sublime.
